Question: How will the time of year affect phosphate levels in the Soil?
Hypothesis: If the time of year continues to winter, then the amount of phosphate levels in the soil will decrease, because there will be less fertilizers being used.
controls:
Depth of soil extraction
Spot of soil extraction
Time of day for each visit
Time between each visit
Container holding sample
Amount of soil taken
I need a container to hold the soil, a utensil to dig the soil (spoon), and a test kit to test the phosphate levels in the soil.
Procedure:
Go to place of regular extraction. With utensil, dig four inches below the surface, and remove a two spoonfuls of soil and place in container. Then take a sample test tube with 30ml of distilled water. Continue by placing two tablets of Floc-ex into the test tube. Then add a heaping teaspoon of soil. Shake the test tube for one minute. Let the tube stand until the soil settle to the bottom. After settled, a clear solution will rise to the top, which will be used for the phosphorus test. Then, take the pipet and transfer twenty-five drops of the clear solution to a square test tube. Fill square test tube to the shoulder with distilled water. Continue by placing one phosphorus tablet into the tube. Shake until the tablet has disintegrated. Wait five minutes for color to develop. Compare the blue level of the solution to the phosphorus chart.
